For generating gas pressure as means of propulsion for use in paired throttle engines, the systems and units of the hydraulic elevators already described can also be used, after modification and adaptation to the special requirements, for the generation of gas pressure. If the collecting vessels are designed with the same dimensions and correspondingly controlled, liquid pressure and gas pressure can also be generated in the same units. The collecting vessel filled with gas is exposed, in the lower part of the rising shaft, to the liquid pressure of the rising shaft and the gas content thereby compressed. This compressed gas is fed from the collecting vessels in the lower position to the paired throttle engines either directly or by way of storage pressure vessels. For rapid rising inside the rising shaft the bottom and top covers of the collecting vessel can be removed. In the upper position of the unit the hollow body of the collecting vessel is withdrawn from the rising shaft in a horizontal direction through a precisely fitting and sealed opening matched to the circular or other shape of the hollow body, by an externally held sealing piston, which retains the liquid in the middle of the hollow body. The outlet aperture is then immediately closed.
