PURPOSE:To enable paper to be more accurately driven by controlling tension of the paper provided on a platen, by establishing a torque control means on the axle on the platen. CONSTITUTION:A platen knob 74 is fitted onto washers 64, 66, 68, a spring 70, and an E ring 72. A corresponding stud 78 on a platen gear 56 and a set of opposed fingers 76 so engaged as to be able to be removed with a snap fit are provided to the platen knob 74. The platen knob 74 is attached to a platen gear 56 in order to enable a position of paper to be manually regulated by directly driving a gear transmission mechanism 50. A sliding washer 64 is composed of metal of a low friction coefficient. A minimum torque for limiting tendency for the spring 70 to be either wound or unwound is transmitted via the spring, and influence of the spring over the whole torque transmitted is lessened to increase the regulation of torque. The spring is kept under a compressed state with the E ring 72.
