PURPOSE:To identify a detected distance by connecting plural comparators which differ in reference values to a detecting element which varies in output signal according to the detected distance, and connecting light emission display bodies which differ in light emission configuration to the respective comparators. CONSTITUTION:When a piston 6 where a permanent magnet 7 is fitted approaches a distance sensor A, the output signal of a magneto-resistance element 12 mounted on the sensor A varies in level and when the signal exceeds the reference value of a comparator 14a, the comparator 14a sends out a detection signal, so that a red LED 17 illuminates. Further, when the piston 6 approaches the center part of the sensor A, the output of the element 12 increases and when the signal exceeds the reference value of a comparator 14b whose reference value is larger, a green LED 18 illuminates. Thus, the detected distance of the piston 6 can easily be discriminated by the different light emission displays. Therefore, when the sensor A is fitted to a cylinder tube 5, it is only fitted at the position where the green LED 18 illuminates, so that the element 12 can be fitted having its center right above the magnet 7.
