PURPOSE:To reduce the time and labor required for translating a sentence by retrieving a keyword corresponding to a designated word among inputted plural words and retrieving an idiom included in plural words which have been inputted among idioms accompanied by the keyword. CONSTITUTION:A dictionary memory stores the keywords with respect to numerous words of a first language, their meanings in a second language, the idioms accompanied by the keywords and their meanings in the second language. The idioms included in the inputted plural words and their meanings, out of the meanings of the idioms corresponding to the designated words and the idioms accompanied by the keywords are displayed in a display means. Even if the inputted sentence is long and has a complicated constitution, much time and labor is eliminated for translation, whereby the appropriate meaning of the idiom included in the sentence can be known, and the inputted sentence can speedily and accurately be translated.
