PURPOSE:To efficiently perform the excitation of laser medium gas by installing a metal strand group in a main electrode discharging region to heat it by electrical conduction, thereby uniformly and effectively generate a glow discharge between the main electrodes in the discharging region. CONSTITUTION:The capacitor 9 of an external discharging circuit 7 is charged through a charging resistor 10 by a high voltage power source 8. The capacitor 9 is charged and discharged repeatedly by predetermined frequency by means of a pulse generator 11 for generating a trigger pulse of predetermined repetition frequency and a thyristor 12 of a switching element, and a pulselike high voltage is applied to a main electrode 4. In order to generate a uniform glow discharge rapidly at the electrodes 4 at this time, metal strand groups 13 are disposed at both sides of a discharging region 5, connected to be conducted to an external power source (not shown). Thermions are irradiated from the conducted and heated groups 13 to be filled in the region 5. Since the groups 13 are continuously conducted and heated, the thermions are supplied to the region 5 constantly and effectively. |
