In a known hydraulic door closer which operates with a running roller and with an associated catch hook, the mounting on the door leaf is somewhat complicated and also entails the fact that an adjustment of the device necessitates the complete dismounting of the device from the door. According to the invention, this complicated mounting and dismounting work can be avoided by means of the special arrangement of the housing, in which the cylinder is received in an articulated manner. The housing is itself connected in an articulated manner to a housing carrier, and only this housing carrier is fastened directly to the door leaf. Moreover, the arrangement according to the invention makes it possible to bring the door closer out of its operating position (vertical) into an inoperative position (horizontal) by tilting it up, with the result that the hollow housing becomes easily accessible on the inside and therefore a desirable adjustment of the cylinder forces to be exerted in the closing region of the door can easily be carried out.
