PURPOSE:To compress image data at high speed in a compression/expansion processing mode, by making the update of generation pointer data unnecessary in a second operation when the generation of code data is performed for two times. CONSTITUTION:When selected data is runlength data, the code data for a color designated by a second control data is generated according to generation address data from a generation address generating means. An encoder means 18 that is a means to generate the code data according to the generation address data from the generation address generating means when the selected data is a first control data, and which outputs the code data by separating outputting in two times when generated code data exceeds length decided in advance and outputs the code data of length decided at second time is provided. In such a way, it is possible to compress the image data at high speed in the compression/expansion processing mode.
