Ultraviolet light absorbing compositions comprising 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-5(6)-(acryloyloxyalkoxy)benzotriazoles of the formula I: <CHEM> wherein R2 represents hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R3 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, or alkoxy of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and R1 represents a group of the formula II: (II) -O-R'-O-CO-C(R'')=CH2 wherein R' is C2 to C10 alkylene, which may be straight chain or branched, and R'' represents hydrogen, methyl, or halomethyl, and copolymers thereof with one or more other monomers copolymerizable therewith, particularly acrylic monomers, are useful in the manufacture of ocular devices, particularly intraocular lenses and contact lenses. |
