PURPOSE:To always obtain excellent cleaning function by a single cleaning device irrespective of the electrification characteristic of a toner by providing a means capable of forming a magnetic field sufficient for depositing the toner having the same polarity as the triboelectrostatic charge of a roller on the surface of the roller. CONSTITUTION:A magnet 4c is arranged in the roller in the cleaning device provided with the elastic cleaning roller 4. Consequently, when a mixture of two toners which are oppositely charged is used, the extreme thinning of one toner layer due to the electrification characteristic of the cleaning roller is avoided. Furthermore, the extreme thickening of the toner layer to be formed on the cleaning roller is avoided, when both toners are mixed in the cleaning device. By this method, a uniform toner layer can always be formed irrespective of the conditions of the toner, excellent cleaning function is obtained, and the escape of the toner to the outside of the cleaning device can be prevented.
