PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of the distortion of input/output waveforms by varying the period of the generation of pulse patterns controlling a semiconductor element for a power converter. CONSTITUTION:A converter 3 and an inverter 5 as power converters are controlled by one-chip microcomputers 10, 11 as controllers. The microcomputer 10 (11) is constituted of a ROM 103, a RAM 104, an ALU 105, an event setting register 107, a time setting register 108, a holding register 109, an associative memory 110, a timer 111, a comparison section 112, an execution controller 113, etc. A pulse pattern generator controlling transistors for the converters 3, 5 is formed by the microcomputer 10 (11), and the period of the generation of pulse patterns is varied under predetermined conditions. Accordingly, the input/output waveforms of the converters 3, 5 can be changed into sine waves, and the generation of distortion can be reduced, ensuring minimum pulse width to the transistors.
