IMPROVING SUBSTANCE FOR LIPID METABOLISM

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance containing specific fibrous materials after extracting and sufficiently removing soluble ingredients from beets as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Beets are cut into the form of small pieces or ground and pressed to squeeze juice therefrom. The pressed pieces are then dipped in hot water to sufficiently extract and remove soluble ingredient consisting essentially of the beets. The resultant residue free of the soluble ingredient is then subjected to treatment, such as decoloring, deodorizing, drying and pulverizing to afford a substance containing fibrous materials (the fibrous material consist of cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin accounts for about 70% based on the total solid substance at 1:1:1 ratio of cellulose:hemicellulose:pectin). The above-mentioned fibrous materials are contained as an active ingredient to provide an improving substance for liquid metabolism. This substance is capable of suppressing increase of cholesterol and neutral fat in blood serum and accumulation of cholesterol and fat in the liver. The afore-mentioned fibrous material may be fractionated and granulated with an excipient or directly added to various drinks and foods.
