A tunnel connecting radio active material treatment cells and provided with a conveyer for movement of material from one cell to another is provided with a radiation-proof air-tight door comprising a protective block 8 slidable across but spaced from cell wall 3 to a position registering with the tunnel aperture 1 and operated by a double-acting fluid-pressure jack 78, a sealing hatch 10 being mounted on the inner surface of the block 8 for movement away from or toward this surface and into sealing engagement or release from a collar 2 located around the tunnel aperture 1. One side edge of the block 8 is provided with a bracket 68 releasably carrying a frame 62, 74 supporting conveyer rollers 56 which in the fully open position of the block 8, register with the aperture 1 and the conveyer (not shown) in the tunnel. The sealing hatch 10 is carried by a spindle 14 urged by a spring 34 in a direction towards the cell wall 3 to bring the hatch 10 into sealing engagement with the collar 2, it being released therefrom by manual operation of handles 38 fixed in a ring 24 secured to the spindle 14 and carrying rollers 26 engaging cam surfaces 28 on a ring 29 fixed in the block 8. |
