PURPOSE:To obtain a highly efficient and highly sensitive absorption photometer, by introducing detection light into a concn. measuring light path composed of a solution column to be measured blocked from external light and receiving the light passing through said light path. CONSTITUTION:Measuring light 2 is allowed to be incident to a solution column 4 to be measured from a light incident part 3. Since the side surface of the solution column 4 of a photometric part is air 5, when the incident angle from the solution to air is 45 deg. or more, the incident light is totally reflected and there is no loss of the measuring light 2. The effect of the stray light from the outside can be also removed by a light blocking plate 7. A light receiving element such as a photodiode is used in a light receiving part 6 and covered with waterproof glass having good light permeability such as quartz glass to impart water resistance. Or, light is allowed to propagate to a place separated from the solution by a lens or an optical fiber to be electrically converted. Since the area of the light receiving part is 1mm<2> or more, even when the solution column 4 is bent, light can be detected and the circumferential air receives no effect of shaking since said air is surrounded by the light blocking plate 7.
