PURPOSE:To detect even the crest value of a pulse signal which varies in pulse width by performing increase/decrease control over a delay time ranging from the leading or trailing edge of an input pulse signal to a sample/hold signal according to the level of the sample/hold signal. CONSTITUTION:The input pulse signal 11 which has a prescribed crest value is compared in terms of level by a comparing circuit 1 with a reference value and the circuit 1 outputs a pulse detection signal 12 which determines the leading or trailing edge of the signal 11 to a variable delay time signal generating circuit 5. A variable delay time signal 13 from the circuit 5 is inputted to a sampling pulse signal generating circuit 3, which generates a sampling pulse signal 14 at a specific position based upon the delay time to a sample holding circuit 4. The circuit 4 samples the crest value of the signal 11 which the signal 14 and outputs. The signal 15 is inputted to a delay time control circuit 6 to detect the signal level, and a delay time control signal 16 for the increase/ decrease control over the delay time determined by the signal 13 is inputted to the circuit 5 so that the crest value of the signal 11 is sample with the signal 14 according to said level variation, thereby controlling the delay time.
