In a refrigeration installation (1) for motor vehicles, consisting of an oil-lubricated compressor (2), a condenser (3) connected downstream of the compressor (2), a throttle member (5) and an evaporator (6), an increase in capacity of the installation is achieved by there being provided between the compressor (2) and the condenser (3) an external oil separator (8) which separates the lubricating oil situated in the refrigerant from the refrigerant, and by the separated oil being cooled via a cooler (condenser 3) and supplied to the compressor (2) again. The use of an external oil separator (8) reduces the proportion of the oil situated in the refrigerant to 1 to 2% by weight. <IMAGE>
