PURPOSE:To obtain thermal recording paper excellent in image stability, color forming sensitivity and dot reproducibility and generating no background fog, by setting the surface of a protective layer to a casting surface. CONSTITUTION:As the polymer binder used in a protective layer, for example, polyvinyl alcohol, modified polyvinyl alcohol and a copolymer thereof are designated and pref. used as an aqueous solution, an emulsion or latex. The surface of the protective layer is set to a casting surface by such a method wherein a thermal recording layer is provided on a support at first and the coating solution for the protective layer is subsequently applied to the thermal recording layer and, thereafter, the surface of the protective layer is brought into contact with other smooth body in a wet state not becoming a dry state or in a re- wetted state after drying to be dried and the surface of the dried protective layer is released from the smooth body or the protective layer once provided on the smooth body is transferred to the thermal recording layer. When the surface of the protective layer is set to the casting surface, the contact with a thermal head becomes well and heat efficiency is enhanced and, therefore, even when the protective layer is provided, color forming sensitivity is rather enhanced without being lowered and dot reproducibility becomes excellent. |
