PURPOSE:To easily prevent an edge overcoat by providing a siphon device which is so controlled as to be positioned always at a specified spacing from the edge part of a plated steel strip and sucking the edge part by a siphon effect. CONSTITUTION:The steel strip 6 plated in a plating cell is pulled upward from a plating bath surface 3 and gas is blown from an injection nozzle to blow away the excess plating film therefrom and to form the uniform plating film. A siphon frame 14 is gripped on the down stream of the injection nozzle by means of a guide rod 16 mounted to a frame 12. The siphon device consisting of an air supply pipe 20, a body 21 and a siphon tube 22 is hung to the siphon frame 14. A cylinder 17 is actuated by a command from a steel strip edge detector 19 in such constitution so that the body 21 is moved by the guide rod 16 to follow up the steel strip edge 15 to maintain the specified distance therefrom. Air A is supplied from the supply pipe 20 through the siphon tube 22 to the body 21 and the excess plating film of the edge part 15 is sucked away by the siphon effect.
