PURPOSE:To permit quick and inexpensive working, assembling and adjusting of an optical fiber by fixing and holding the optical fiber in holes or grooves bored to carriers having standardized three-dimensional shapes. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber unit is obtd. by fixing the optical fiber pieces into the holes or grooves bored to the carriers 2, 3 which are formed of materials such as glass, metals or plastic and have the specified standardized three-dimensional shapes and cutting the carrier material to the standardized shape. Since the outside diameter of the carriers is of an adequate size according to this constitution, the unit is easy to handle and since the outside shape of the carriers 2, 3 is not circular, the carriers permit easy fixing and installing. The unit has plural kinds of the three-dimensional shapes and, therefore, optional selection of the unit shape and quick adjustment of the combinations are possible. Formation of optical elements to various shapes is thus permitted.
