PURPOSE:To efficiently correct an ellipse with high accuracy bt setting the correction value of a pipe to be corrected previously, by un-loading when (devia tion of outer diameter in the loading direction-proportional factor X load) of the material to be corrected is reached the correcting value. CONSTITUTION:The material 10 to be corrected is supported by the upper and lower taps 2, 5, a strain gauge 6 is fitted on a frame 3, and a displacement gauge 8 is set between an arm 7 and a base 1. Before correcting, the ellipse correct value A and an inclination lambda2 (proportional factor) of a straight line tying a starting point of unloading B and a finished point C are obtained previously. At correcting, the load the deviation of the outer diameter are measured every moment by the gauge 3 and the displacement gauge 8, the unloading is started when (outer diameter deviation in the loading direction-proportional factorXcorrect load) of the material to be corrected 10 is reached at the target correct value A. By this method, with depending on a perception of a worker and regardless of a hysteresis of the material to be corrected, the ellipse correcting is performed efficiently and accurately.
