Thermal printhead

In a known thermal printhead, heating elements are arranged in a row parallel to the end edge of the thermal printhead on an insulating layer and a carrier substrate located therebelow, and connected to one another via a first conductor layer of a busbar in each case in the area near to the end edge, which busbar extends around the ends of the insulating layer near to the end edge and of the carrier substrate as far as the underside of the carrier substrate and there takes the form of a second conductor layer. The new thermal printhead is intended to have a simple design and a particular small distance between the row of heating elements and the end edge. In the new thermal printhead (1), the second conductor layer (11) is located directly below the insulating layer (13) on the carrier substrate (8); the insulating layer (13) ends leaving a strip (14), parallel to the end edge, of the second conductor layer (11) uncovered at one edge (15) over which the first conductor layer (10) extends down to the second conductor layer (11). The new thermal printhead is used in conjunction with release ink ribbons. <IMAGE>
