PURPOSE:To raise the optical coupling efficiency by sticking the end face of an optical fiber and the end face of an optical semiconductor element through an optical adhesive agent provided with a refractive index being roughly equal to a refractive index of a core of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:At the time of assembly, first of all, an optical adhesive agent 20 is dripped down to an optical semiconductor element end face 5, and the adhesive agent 20 is placed in a dome shape on the element end face 5. Subsequently, a fiber end face 10A is allowed to be adjacent to the element end face 5, and in a state that the fiber end face 10A has abutted on the top part of the adhesive agent 20, an optical fiber 10 is adjusted as to its movement on the surface being parallel to the element end face 5, and after the adjustment has been ended, a relation position of the optical fiber 10 and a photoconductor 1 is fixed by hardening the adhesive agent 20. As for the optical adhesive agent 20, that which has a refractive index being roughly equal to a refractive index of a core 11 is selected, therefore, in case the optical semiconductor 1 is a photodetector, when a reflected light by the fiber end face 10A is monitored by connecting the optical fiber 10 to a light source, the reflected light is abundant before the fiber end face 10A abuts on the optical adhesive agent 20, but when the fiber end face 10A abuts on the adhesive agent 20, this reflected light scarcely exists.
