PURPOSE:To ensure the highly reliable operation with an inexpensive accelerator sensor, by using two different kinds of accelerator sensors, and connecting an output converter to at least one of the accelerator sensors so that output signals from both the sensors may be compatible. CONSTITUTION:An accelerator pedal 17 is provided with a first accelerator sensor 18 of a magnetic type and a second accelerator sensor 19 of a variable resistor type (potentiometer). The sensors 18 and 19 are connected through first and second amplifiers 20 and 21, output converters 22 and 23 and A/D converters 24 and 25 to a switching circuit 26, respectively. The output converters 22 and 23 process input signals so that output signals may be compatible. When the first sensor 18 becomes abnormal, and such abnormality is detected by a first level determining device 27, the switching circuit 26 is switched to let a microcomputer 13 control a transmission 3 according to an output from the second sensor 19.
