PURPOSE:To detect participation and quit of a station by one and the same means of providing a means giving a function setting sequentially a station number to other station, a check function of the comparison result of the station number from the other station, comparing the existing station number and the new station number to stations other than the master station and informing the result. CONSTITUTION:When a transmitter is set to the master station, a fault detection circuit 33 detects the disturbance of a transmission line by participation/quit of the station to send a station number set frame. In this case, a command to set the station number is inserted to a part C and the initial pattern at the setting of the station number is inserted to a flag F(i). After the circulation of the frame, the part C is rewritten into a control pattern representing the station number check and the result is sent. When the frame is circulated once, the pattern of the F(i) is checked. In the revision of the station number for stations other than the master station, with the number set with its own station is (m), the pattern of the F(m) is inverted by using a data rewrite circuit 36 via a rewrite command line 16 from a frame reception control circuit 9 in the station. Thus, the master station recognizes the participation/quit of a station from the part subject to be change in the said pattern and informs the result to the other stations.
