PURPOSE:To prevent contamination at the edges of photographic paper by specifying the longitudinal/cross ratio of the modulus of elasticity of the paper layer of a base for water- resistant photographic paper formed by coating both faces of the paper layer by a thermoplastic resin to >=1.20. CONSTITUTION:The raw paper having >=1.20 ratio of the modulus of elasticity in the longitudinal direction (flow direction at the time of paper making) and the modulus of elasticity in the cross direction (cross direction at the time of paper making) of the base for the water- resistant photographic paper formed by coating both faces of the paper layer by the thermoplastic resin is used. The photographic paper is continuously developed to a long band shape in the longitudinal direction and, therefore, the capillaries opened at the cut ends of the photographic paper are decreased by forming the base paper layer of the photographic paper which is the base for the photographic paper in such a manner as to parallel the fibers constituting said layer with the cut ends of the photographic paper as far as possible, by which the penetration of a developing soln. to the base for the photographic paper is decreased. The penetration of the developing soln. to the photographic paper base at the time of the development is prevented by controlling the fiber arrangement of the base paper layer for the photographic paper to increase the ratio of the modulus of elasticity in the longitudinal and cross directions to >=1.20 in the above-mentioned manner. The base which is less contaminated at the end faces of the photographic paper and has an excellent cutting property is thus obtd. |
