1301885 Antistatic finishing CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 24 April 1970 [26 April 1969] 19801/70 Heading D1P A process for imparting an antistatic finish to shaped articles of linear crystallizable polyesters comprises applying to the surface of the articles a solution, or an aqueous emulsion, of a compound of general formula: in an amount of from 0.1 to 10%, preferably of from 1 to 5% by weight, with reference to the articles, and fixing the finish to the articles by heating them to between 120‹ and 240‹C, preferably between 150‹ to 220‹C. In the above formula R 1 denotes a hydrogen atom or methyl group; R 2 and R 3 denote linear or branched chain saturated aliphatic radicals having one to seventeen carbon atoms, suitably methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, undecyl, pentadecyl or heptadecyl radicals, at least one of the groups R 2 and R 3 having between eleven and seventeen Carbon atoms. In examples articles of poly(ethylene glycolterephthalate) and poly(1,4- bis(hydroxymethyl) cyclohexame terephthalate) are treated with a perchloroethylene solution, or an aqueous emulsion of one or other of the following antistatic agents; N-(2-hydroxyethyl) - N - (2-lauroyloxyethyl) - lauramide, N - [(2 - hydroxy - methyl) ethyl] - N - (2 - lauroyloxyethyl) - lauramide, or N - [(2 - hydroxy - 2 - methyl) ethyl] - N - (2 - lauroyloxyethyl) - acetamide, dried at 100‹C and heated to betwen 140‹ and 160‹C in order to fix the agent to the surface. |
