PURPOSE:To decrease the number of colors written in the same dot, to upgrade the chroma of an image, and to improve the quality of a picture by changing the constitution of a threshold matrix for binarization based on a specific formula at every color to be written. CONSTITUTION:In the case of the dot number of N1XN2 and the number of colors M such as cyan, magenta, yellow, black, etc., the threshold level aij(m) of the threshold matrix of the m-th color is determined by an equation I. Accordingly, since the threshold matrix constituted at every color is compared with an input picture element information then binarized, the number of colors to be written in one same dot among respective dots is reduced and the number of dots where subtractive color mixing may occur can be minimized. As a result, a color reproduction area is increased areas from hilighting to middle ones can be faithfully reproduced, and the quality of a picture is improved.
