PURPOSE:To adjust a brush advancing angle accurately and simply in a starter motor by a brush positioning member having coupling irregularities provided immovably on a yoke inner peripheral wall and arranged circumferentially and by a brush holder having a coupled part engaging with said irregularities. CONSTITUTION:A brush 6 housed slidably in a brush holder 5 is caused to pressure-contact the outer peripheral face of a commutator 9 at a given pressure. A brush positioning member 4 provided immovably on the inner peripheral wall of a yoke 1 is provided with circular notches 4B and coupling irregularities 4A in the manner of corresponding to fitting places of the brush holder 5. In the cylindrical brush holder 5, protruding parts 5B each having a shape enabling said part to fit freely in said notch 4B of the brush positioning member 4 are integrally formed on the outside face of said brush holder 5. Because a coupled part 5A having the gear geometry of the protruding parts 5B is caused to engage with the coupling irregularities 4A, a desired value of brush advancing angle can be set accurately, quickly and simply. Also, any special additional parts and adjusting work are unnecessary so that productivity is also improved.
