PURPOSE:To obtain a high contrast by using an oriented film of a high energy surface for an oriented film of a high polymer, etc., at the time of using an orientation method which has performed a uniaxial orientation processing of the high polymer, etc. CONSTITUTION:In an electro-optical device consisting of a liquid crystal layer, a substrate 1 placed so as to insert and hold this liquid crystal layer, a voltage impressing means to the liquid crystal layer, an oriented layer 3 for bring the liquid crystal layer to an orientation control on the substrate 1, and at least one polarizing plate 7, a free surface energy of the oriented layer 3 for executing the orientation control is set to >=35dyn/cm. In such a way, the oriented film for forming a high energy surface can lay down a liquid crystal molecule on the interface due to its high wettability, and a high contrast is obtained. |
