PURPOSE:To improve the edge wear, surface roughing, breakdown, resistance by composing a cast iron roll of specific contents of C, Si, Ni, Cr, and remaining Fe and composing the body center part of graphite case iron and the body end parts of white case iron. CONSTITUTION:A cast iron roll is composed of, by wt, 2.5-3.7% C, 0.2-2.2% si, 0.2-1.5% Mn, <=0.1% P, <=0.08% S, 0.8-4.5% Ni, 0.5-5.0% Cr, 0.2-1.5% Mo, and practically remaining part of Fe. A cast iron roll (rolling roll) consists of body end parts (white cast iron) 1, the body center part (graphite cast iron) 2, and the body core part 3. The roll is manufactured by a hollowing casting or a centrifugal casting by use of molds 6 composed of sand molds 4 and metal molds 5 for the body center part 2 and the body end parts 1, respectively. Thus, the roll has the excellent edge wear, surface roughing, and breakdown resistances.
