[Also in Division H3] In a seismic vibration generator comprising a pair of orbitting masses 42 propelled to counter-rotate in raceways in a casing 35, the resultant vertical vibrations are coupled to a massive base 11 by means of a variable compliance. The coupling may consist of air cushions 29, 30, the pressure of air within which is varied to vary the compliance. The coupling may be effected by an upwardly tapered steel column, the low force, high amplitude vibrations of the generator at the narrow end of the column being converted to high force, low amplitude vibrations at the thick end of the column attached to the base. |
