PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of printing quality even when paper of thickness varying with place is printed by storing any position in the same line of paper and a gap amount to such a position and controlling an autogap adjustment mechanism. CONSTITUTION:For instance, if the thickness of paper 22 set to a platen 21 varies with place, the positions of points 'D', 'E', 'F' and 'G', and a gap amount of m1 between D-E, a gap amount of m2 between E-F and a gap amount of m3 between F-G are designated. When printing between D-E is completed, a control circuit interrupts printing, during which time, a gap amount of m2 at point 'E' stored in a gap data storage circuit is read. After this, the gap is adjusted to m2, and the positions of points 'E' and 'F' whose data is stored in the gap storage circuit are read to perform printing between E-F. In the same manner, the gap between F-G is adjusted to m3 to perform printing. Thus printing of a single line of the paper 22 is terminated, and a gap at any position in a certain horizontal direction can be designated by a command. Also on the basis of this printing can be performed by changing the gap in the same line. |
