PURPOSE:To decrease the time required for consumption and recording of a recording medium by providing a data ineffective flag area at every frame of a DAT and setting the ineffective flag when a recording area is intermitted so as to apply recording. CONSTITUTION:One frame is constituted by two tracks of the DAT recorded by a rotary head and the data ineffective flag area is provided at every frame. In the DAT device, for example, in backing up the data from a hard disk device 6, a write address and a read address of a memory control circuit 23 are compared, a buffer memory 24 is idle and when the addresses are coincident, the signal is fed to a microcomputer 22. The signal is fed to a digital signal processing circuit 14, the data ineffective flag 1 is set and an ineffective data is recorded in the data part. Thus, in the device, even if the data is intermitted, since the recording is consecutive, smooth recording is attained at all times.
