To reduce the dust concentration, in particular in desert areas, for filter plants in general and for gas turbines in particular, a baffle collar, which has a maximum height of 0.4 h, is provided upstream of the filter system. With the air vortex generated as a result on the windward side of the filter, a banking of the dust entrance occurs and as a result, in a known manner as a function of height, a dust concentration decrease of about 2/3 is produced, based on the ground level value. Therefore, the filter surface area can be reduced for the same service life. The baffle collar is applicable both to newly built plants and also for retrofitting existing filter plants of all systems. In Fig. 1, the decrease in dust concentration is shown as a function of height and the flow pattern is depicted as exemplified by a filter system having a baffle collar. <IMAGE>
