PURPOSE:To pile articles in multistage form onto a pallet having an opened port part formed on an enclosing wall part by installing a rear stopper in retreatable ways for the rear upper part of the supporting member of a carriage body. CONSTITUTION:As for a loading device, a pallet P is supported onto an elevation board 50 and raised to the front of a conveyor body 23, and an article B is arranged onto a conveyor body 23. The arranged article B is supported onto a carriage body 33 by the lowering of the conveyor 23. The fork-shaped carriage body 33 is advanced onto the supporting surface P1 which is formed in inclined form on the pallet P, through the opened port part C1 of an enclosing wall part C, and the rear part of the article B on the advanced carriage body 33 is engaged by a rear stopper 42. The carriage body 33 is retreated and pulled out from the lower part of the article B in this state, and therefore the article B can be transferred onto the pallet P.
