PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength of a friction material, by laminating bundles of plural twisted carbon fibers to form the friction material. CONSTITUTION:Plural carbon fibers 2 are twisted together into a bundle, and such bundles are laminated into a squarely crossing composition to form a friction material 1. Therefore, the strength of the bundled carbon fibers 2 is increased, and the mechanical strength of the whole friction material can be improved.
