WATER-ABSORBING SHEET FOR PERISHABLE FOOD AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sheet capable of effectively absorbing water exuded from perishable food and making the stained state of the food invisible from outside, by laminating a specific water-absorbing polymer on an opaque plastic sheet having a number of small through-holes. CONSTITUTION:A water-absorbing polymer is produced by agitating and foaming an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble polymer such as sodium polyacrylate, a crosslinking agent such as ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether, and a foaming agent. The water-absorbing polymer is applied to a paper having releasable surface and the surface of the coating layer is dried e.g. by blasting hot air. The coated paper is laminated with an opaque plastic sheet having a number of small through-holes such as white polyethylene sheet, the crosslinking reaction is completed and the sheet is released from the above coated paper to obtain the objective sheet.
