PURPOSE:To reduce the size and the weight of an instrument by filling a ferromagnetic fluid in a hermetically sealed container made of a non-magnetic material, floating a magnetic sphere in the ferromagnetic fluid and providing the coil aggregates on the orthogonal central axes of the hermetically sealed container. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic fluid 2 is filled in a hermetically sealed container 1 made of a non-magnetic material. A magnetic sphere 3 is located in the fluid 2 in floating condition. The coil aggregates 4a-4b composed of detecting coils, exciting coils and holding coils are provided on the orthogonal central axes X-X' and Y-Y' of the container 1. When an acceleration acts on the right hand in parallel to the axis X-X', the sphere 3 moves to the left. In result, since the density of the fluid 2 is decreased on the left hand, the reluctance of a magnetic circuit made by the coil aggregate 4a is increased and differential output voltage is developed across the two coil aggregates 4a and 4c. Since the differential output voltage is proportional to the amount of the movement of the fluid 2 due to that of the sphere 3, the magnitude of the acceleration can be detected from the differential output voltage and, at the same time, the direction of the acceleration can be detected from the polarity of the differential output voltage. |
