PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance having antibacterial action on Gram-positive bacteria, etc., by hydrolyzing chloropolysporin B with rhamnosidase. CONSTITUTION:Chloropolysporin B shown by the formula (R1 is ristosamine; R2 is mannose; R3 is glucose; R4 is rhamnose) is hydrolyzed with rhamnosidase to give the aimed chloropolysporin C wherein R4 in the formula is H. Chloropolysporin C sulfate has the following chemical and physical properties. Properties: amphoteric, water-solubility and white powder. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<25>=-64.4 deg. (C=1.08, 0.1NHCl). Elemental analysis (%): C 50.53, H 4.69, N 6.14, Cl 5.62, S 1.12. Soluble in water and methanol, slightly soluble in acetone, insoluble in ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene. Molecular formu la: C77H79O30N8Cl3.0.5H2SO4.5H2O. Molecular weight: 1,700(MH<+> 1,701), etc.
