PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive Ca additive which permits easy and efficient addition of Ca in a steel by forming a mixture contg. a specific ratio of metallic Ca and iron powder by compression molding to a compressed body having a suitable weight. CONSTITUTION:A mixture constituted of 4-50% metallic Ca and the balance substantially iron powder is briquetted under a pressure of about 1-9t/cm<2> and a Ca additive which is a compressed body weighing at 10-200g is obtd. While the metallic Ca to be used in the above is fine grains of <=15mm., sponge iron powder, or atomized iron and steel powder having <=5mm. diameter is used for the iron powder. Graphite, oil, agalmatolite powder, etc. can be added as a lubricant to decrease the frictional resistance of a briquetting machine in the stage of briquetting. Various elements such as Al, Mn or the like, alloys, compd., etc. can be further mixed therewith up to 15%. The content of Ca and weight of the above-mentioned compressed body are selected according to a desired reaction rate in the above-mentioned range. |
