The invention relates to a plug device which considerably reduces the risk of electric shock in the case of electrical load installations and increases the operating reliability. It is based on a plug device having a protection circuit, in the case of which disconnection occurs in the event of a defect and is characterised in that a magnetic field in a specific direction holds the relay contacts in the switched-on state and switching-off is carried out by an opposing magnetic field if an unacceptably high fault current flows via the plug socket protective-earth contact to the neutral conductor or to earth via the apparatus protective-earth conductor. A major additional advantage of the invention is the easy capability for retrofitting and the relatively low costs.
