PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a recording film by forming the recording layer in such a manner that the peripheral end edge thereof recedes inward from the peripheral contour of a substrate and that the peripheral end edge of a protective film exists on the side outer than the peripheral end edge of the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The recording film 4 and the protective film 5 are formed on the substrate 1 in such a manner that the peripheral end edge 6 of the recording film 4 exists on the side inner than the contour 7 of the substrate 1 and that the peripheral end edge 8 of the protective film 5 exists on the side outer than the peripheral end edge 6 of the recording film 4. The plane dimensional relation thereof is satisfied in both the outside circumferential part of an optical disk and the point of a central hole thereof in the case of a disk such as optical disk having the central hole. This structure is easily formable by previously masking the area corresponding to the distance D between the peripheral end edge 8 of the protective layer 5 and the peripheral end edge 6 of the recording layer 4 at the time of forming the recording film 4. The durability of the magneto-optical recording medium is thereby improved. |
