PURPOSE:To improve a processing speed and to attain a high speed procedure by executing plural different managements by the use of a stored index. CONSTITUTION:The index is sorted into two hierarchies, in an element in which the number of meshes through which a drawing element passes is below a constant value, the number of the passing meshes of an uniformly divided logical mesh is stored in a high order and when the number thereof is above the constant value, an area circumscribing the element, for instance, is stored in a low order. Since the mesh stored in the index is used to manage, even when the size of the graphic element is large, the management can be executed with the mesh of the size suitable for said size.
