摘要 PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance and breaking resistance, by regulating the grain size of a hard coating layer of Ti carbide, Ti nitride, etc., to be formed on the surface of a substrate of Ti carbonitride-base cermet to a value as small as <=0.5mum. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the Ti carbonitride-base cermet substrate is coated with one or more kinds among Ti carbide, Ti nitride, and Ti carbonitride to 0.5-10mum average layer thickness. Further, the average grain size of this hard coating layer is regulated to <=0.5mum. The above coating layer combines superior wear resistance with breaking resistance, so that this cermet shows excellent cutting property when used as high-speed cutting tools.
