PURPOSE:To improve machining accuracy, by detecting positions of a workpiece and a pallet by a contact detecting means to be compared with the preceding time data and correcting an NC machining program so as to reduce the time for mounting the workpiece to the pallet and an error by the worker. CONSTITUTION:Coordinates on two straight lines, containing original points of a workpiece 7 and a pallet 8, are detected by a contact detecting means 20 and stored in memory in a storing means 21, and a machine, in which a position arithmetic means 22 calculates coordinates of a reference point and a tilt of a table 10 for its X-axis, corrects a coordinate value of an NC machining program in a correcting means 25 to be stored in a memory means 23. In case of cutoff machining, after the workpiece 7 and the pallet 8 are mounted to a surface plate 9 by an automatic workpiece exchanger 15, the NC machining program is corrected by a similar procedure. When the workpiece 7 is in finishing cutting off the reference point already, the machine, obtaining only the reference point of the pallet 8 and its tilt, obtains the position of the workpiece by adding a position data, stored in memory in the memory means 23 before machining, and an error, compared in a comparing arithmetic means, to the position data of the workpiece 7 stored in the memory means 23.
