PURPOSE:To prevent an ink from being dried and prevent clogging, by providing an ink jet head comprising nozzles and an ink pipe for supplying the ink to the nozzles, and filling the nozzles with a magnetic fluid at non-operating times. CONSTITUTION:At non-operating times of an ink jet printer, a magnetic fluid is supplied from a magnetic-fluid tank to a nozzle 1 and a nozzle 2 through a magnetic-fluid pipe 17. A magnet 11 and a magnet 12 are fixed to a nozzle head 15 so that they show opposite polarities. Therefore, a magnetic field sufficient for maintaining the magnetic fluid at a nozzle part is generated, and the magnetic fluid is allowed to fill the nozzles. The nozzles are formed in a nozzle bush formed of a non-magnetic material such as a glass, and the nozzle bush is inserted in a nozzle head formed of a magnetic material. Thus, an ink in the nozzles is replaced by the magnetic fluid, so that the ink does not make direct contact with the atmosphere, and can be prevented from being dried. When the printer is operated, the magnetic fluid can be prevented from flowing into the nozzles, by a magnetic-fluid valve mechanism 14. |
