PURPOSE:To sharpen the edge part of a waveform and to reduce noise, by inputting an input signal to an edge detection circuit, and controlling the gain of an amplifier circuit which amplifies a delayed input signal by the output of the edge detection circuit. CONSTITUTION:A reproducing signal (a) on which emphasis is applied is inputted from an input terminal 1 to the edge detection circuit 4 and a delay circuit 2. The edge detection circuit 4 detects an overshoot part exceeding a prescribed level, and outputs a signal (b). Meanwhile. a signal delayed at the delay circuit 2 is sent to the amplifier circuit 3. At the amplifier circuit 3, a signal (d) whose leading edge is enhanced is outputted by varying the gain based on the signal (b) from the edge detection circuit 4. In such way, it is possible to sharpen the edge part without enhancing the noise in the edge part of a reproducing image.
