PURPOSE:To obtain a driving device prevented from the generation of slippage by controlling press contact between a driving roll and a slider based on a difference between the rotating speed of the driving roll and the moving speed of the slider. CONSTITUTION:The rotating speed of the driving roll 3 coupled with a motor 2 is detected by a rotating speed detector 4 consisting of tachometer. A moving speed detector 5 consisting of a linear scale to detect the moving speed of the slider 1 moving by the rotation of the driving roll 3 is fitted to the side of the slider 1. The difference between the rotational speed of the roll 3 and the moving speed of the slider 1 obtained from these detectors 4, 5 is found out by an unshown arithmetic unit and a slipping speed between the roll 3 and the slider 1 is calculated based on the obtained difference. Thereby, a servo value 10 is driven based on a difference signal between the rotating speed signal obtained from a slippage detector 13 and said moving speed and the pressing force of a backup roll 7 is controlled to required level, so that the slippage can be maintained always at a minimum value.
