<p>Process for recovering metal values from a jarosite-containing waste by mixing a material comprising zinc ferrite (31), sulfuric acid and a source of ammonium ions to form a sulfuric acid leach mixture (33), heating the leach mixture to form solid ammonium jarosite (37) and solubilized zinc sulfate, separating the phases, recovering zinc from the leachate (35), treating the solid with calcium chloride (6) at a temperature of 100°C to 300°C wherein the pH of the solution is between 1.5 and 3.5 to form a liquid leachate and a solid residue followed by separation of the leachate from the residue and recovery of metal values from the liquid phase.</p> |
