Determination of the degree of modification of silicon eutectic - - in an aluminium silicon light alloy

A sample of the fused alloy is taken and its cooling curve plotted. The level part of the curve corresponding to the solidification of the binary eutectic is determined and teh degree of modification found by comparison with a standard scale. The determination may be carried out in situ in the workshop. Teh alloy may contain other elements.
