PURPOSE:To prevent disabled data communication due to erroneous registration by idetifying the connection state of a slave station to the transmission line from a master station depending on the station number of the slave station obtained by the result of initial communication and registering the station. CONSTITUTION:Prior to data communication, the master station applies communication requesting a station number sequentially to all slave stations connected to the transmission line 1. A slave communication equipment 4 returns the station number to the master station according to the said request. A master station communication equipment detects the station number of the returned slave station and registers the station number of the relevant slave station to a slave station number registering area 8 of a storage section 5 built in the master station 3. When the initial communication is finished to all the slave stations, the master station 3 repeats normal data communication to an optional slave station connected to the line 1 based on the save station number registered in the area 8 of the storage section 5.
